What is a yurt kit?
A yurt kit is a complete package of pre-fabricated components that lets you assemble a fully engineered round structure on your own foundation. At Secret Creek, we've been building yurt kits in Montrose, Colorado since 1976 — every kit ships with the lattice wall, rafters, compression ring, roof and side cover, door, cables, and hardware needed to raise it.
What's included in a Secret Creek yurt kit
- Structural frame: khana lattice wall, roof rafters, and a hand-crafted compression ring.
- Covers: architectural-grade top cover and side wall in your chosen color, plus insulation options.
- Door: solid wood insulated door with frame, pre-hung.
- Windows & dome: operable windows and an acrylic skylight dome.
- Hardware & cables: tension cable, aircraft cable, and all fasteners.
- Assembly manual: step-by-step guide plus phone support from our shop.
What's not included (and why)
Yurt kits do not include the deck platform, interior finishes, plumbing, or electrical. Those are site-specific and best sourced locally. We provide free deck plans for every size we sell.
How to choose the right yurt kit size
Our kits range from 12' up to 30' in diameter. As a rough guide: 16'–20' works for a hunting base camp or backyard studio; 24'–27' suits a full-time one-bedroom home; 30' fits a family layout with a loft.
Insulation and four-season options
If you plan to live in your yurt year-round, add reflective insulation, an insulated liner, and upgraded snow-load rafters. Colorado winters taught us to over-engineer these.
What a yurt kit actually costs
A basic Secret Creek yurt kit starts around $9,000 for a 16' and climbs into the $30,000s for a fully insulated 30'. Delivery, deck, and site prep are additional.
